Industrail revolution

Industrial Revolution

My groups project is “Unlawful Conditions, Dangerous Workspaces, and Mistreated Children”.   This title title perfectly describe what visitors will learn about in our exhibit. When a person exits our exhibit i hope they will leave with knowledge of how children were treated during the Industrial Revolution.I also hope they see that although children were mistreated they were a large part to the success of the revolution. Each document should be examined carefully for a better overall understanding of what our exhibit is about.

During the Industrial Revolution 1000s of children were put into an unsafe workforce. Our exhibit is based of our 5 sources and we supply visitors with all the information that we learned from them. Due to a troubled economy parents had no choice but to have their kids work at a young age. As shown in our first source "children had leather.."  some children were told to pull heavy carriages, and due to their young age and lack of muscle, they were forced to complete this task by having a leather belt connect their back and carriage. Also our second document "Age Distribution in Factories" ( 1818-1819)  shows us the 49.4% of employes in the factory started work before they were even 10. However the Factory act of 1819 dramatically reduced that number to 3.9%. Our other sources also describe that the terrible conditions children were working in. Our exhibit clearly depicts that children were mistreated, placed in dangerous work environments ,and forced to do harsh jobs.

Each of the four exhibits gave me a better understanding on the Industrial Revolution. The exhibit “Changes to Life Conditions Due to the Industrial Revolution” taught me how the industrial Revolution has affected our planet. Air pollution, smoke and unclean rivers resulted from this revolution.  The second exhibit i visited was “Fueling Transportation in The Industrial Revolution.” This exhibit taught me about the impact iron had on how we travel and also showed me that just 53 years after trains began use grand central station was invented. The next exhibit i visited was ‘A New Age is Looming over The Horizon” this presentation gave me a better understanding of looms and spinning jennys. These innovations played a large part in the Industrial revolution. The final exhibit i visited “Weaving Slavery into The Industrial Revolution”  taught me how much of the Industrial Revolution impacted the slave population.  Due to the increase in cotton mills, slaves were hired and the population increased largely.

Every exhibit i visited helped to give me a better overall understanding of the Industrial Revolution. Also from curating my own exhibits i learned the importance of making the information interesting but also making the exhibit eye catching. I found the most colorful and creative were the most interesting for me to visit.
